Joaquin Phoenix was born on October 28, 1974, in San Juan (Puerto Rico). His parents then joined the Children of God sect. His father and mother were indeed very adept at the so-called “flower power” culture. In 2014, in Playboy, the actor explained that his parents “had a religious and powerful experience. They wanted to share it with other people. They believed they found a community sharing their ideas. Sects do not present themselves only rarely as such.” After leaving Children of God, the family traveled to South America and the United States in a fairly bohemian lifestyle, Joaquin Phoenix explained to Telerama in 2015. Poor, he and his brothers and sisters will be forced to beg several times.
