The Ombudsman, JO, criticizes the police after a police station in Uppsala refused a woman to make a report about a serious violation of women’s privacy. Instead, she was directed to return later in the day while the notification reception was open.
“It is unsatisfactory that the opportunity to report a crime at an open police station is limited to a certain time of day,” says the Ombudsman Per Lennebrant in a press release.
JO notes that according to the Uppsala police’s own routine description, the crime was of such a nature that they should have received her report immediately.
“There is a risk that a lack of accessibility of this kind damages the public’s trust in the Police Authority and may reduce the willingness to report crimes,” says Per Lennebrant.
