On a Wednesday morning in October, the craftsmen arrived at the humor duo Lucas Simonsson and Carl Déman’s newly purchased house in Mölndal. In the house, the bathroom and kitchen were to be torn out and the roof replaced – but when the craftsmen began to tear out a shelf in the attic, they made an unexpected discovery, something GP was the first to report on.
“We checked what it was and were shocked and nervous,” says one of the craftsmen in questioning with the police.
In a hidden space under a green blanket were several storage boxes containing ten kilos of 23 carat gold and four kilos of platinum. In total, the value of the precious metals amounts to just over 7.3 million kroner – half a million less than what the comedy duo from Gothenburg bought the house for.
Investigated as a serious money laundering offence
It was in August that Carl Déman together with Lucas Simonsson ventured into the property industry when they started the company Didder och Dadder AB. In police interrogations, Carl Déman says that they bought the house in Mölndal at the end of August, to then renovate and rent it out.
The artisans handed over the find to the police, who started a criminal investigation into serious money laundering – but the investigation was quickly closed.
The former home owner states in questioning with the police that he inherited the house from his deceased parents, and believes that the gold belonged to them. As proof, he has presented a gold bar he found among his mother’s belongings – from the same series as the bars found in the attic.
The dispute is settled in the Gothenburg District Court
But also the new house owners – Lucas Simonsson and Carl Déman – and the craftsmen lay claim to the precious metals.
At the beginning of the week, the humor duo’s real estate company sent a request to the district court to have the seizure tried in court. The dispute will now be settled in the Gothenburg District Court.
SVT has spoken with the former home owner, who chose not to comment on the incident. SVT has applied for Carl Déman and Lucas Simonsson.
