JK Rowling wants to help Ukrainian children up to 1

To help children trapped in orphanages in Ukraine, the British author of the Harry Potter saga is appealing for donations, and promises to equalize the sum up to one million pounds sterling.

The best-selling author JK Rowling wishes to support the Ukrainian people, and particularly to war-affected children. On Twitter, the novelist who wrote the Harry Potter saga launched an appeal for donations, intended for children trapped in orphanages, and offers to match these donations to the tune of £1 million. This online appeal for donations was launched on the Lumos foundation, which she co-founded in 2005, and which raises funds to provide medical care, food and hygiene kits to provide essentials for people fleeing the war in Ukraine. “I will personally match donations to this appeal, up to £1million” wrote the Briton on the social network.

According to Lumos, nearly 100,000 children live in orphanages in Ukraine. The foundation has particularly focused its efforts in the region of Zhytomyr, west of the capital Kiev, where more than 1,500 children were in these orphanages before the invasion of the Russians. “The invasion by Russian forces means more children are now at risk.” specifies on its website the Lumos Foundation.
