Author JK Rowling’s name has been removed from an exhibit at The Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, writes Deadline. The exhibit is about the Harry Potter universe and includes memorabilia and information about the books and films, but anything related to the author is now being removed by museum curators.
In a blog posts on the museum’s website, project manager Chris Moore, who is trans himself, explains that it is because of JK Rowling’s “hateful and dismissive” statements about transgender people.
“This is not a perfect solution, but it is something that we have done in the short term, while we decide how to do it in the future,” he writes in the post.
Criticism of Rowling
Criticism surrounding Rowling gained momentum in 2020 when she railed on Twitter against an article that used the wording “people who menstruate” instead of “women”. The anger was further fueled when she elaborated on her views on biological sex in a lengthy blog post.
Rowling has said that it was not intended to upset anyone and that fans have misunderstood her views.
