Jimmy Åkesson (SD) about AR-15: “It doesn’t look like a common weapon”

The time parties have shaken hand – the weapons should be limited, because there are problems with how they look.

Åkesson mentions that the police have expressed concern that since the appearance of these weapons can trigger other than serious hunters, game keepers and sports shooters.

– If you talk to someone who has a genuine weapons interest, then you see a difference between this and a “rambovap”. If you ask someone who has no such interest, I think many people question why you should use such a weapon for hunting.

He continues:

– I am afraid of, and there I think hunters should listen to us critics, that there is a risk that the existence of this type of weapon will change legitimacy and respect for Swedish wildlife tradition.

SD-summit left post

Richard Jomshof (SD), at the time, the chairman of the Justice Committee, stated on Sunday that “it is in fact a devastating majority in the Sweden Democrats who do not share the position presented”. He subsequently left his place as chairman.

Jimmie Åkesson says in Current that as a SD politician you have the right to express your own opinion in public.

– I think the last week is an excellent proof of that. However, you cannot be chairman of the Justice Committee and at the same time go against the party line on a matter to deal with, he says.

Don’t think the debate is about AR-15

The party leader ultimately believes that the reactions from hunters and party mates are not about a craze for the weapon AR-15.

– The hunters have felt questioned for some time, not least since the weapons investigation came. Then this happens in Örebro and it is done with licensed hunting weapons. It creates further concerns in that group and you feel further suspicious. Then we and the government come with this message and it is somehow the drop that causes the beaker to run over.

He believes that most hunters in Sweden are “incredibly serious”.

– Those who have a weapons license in Sweden are no problem, Åkesson concludes.
