Jewish memorial ceremony canceled for security reasons

It reports Today’s news on the anniversary of the November pogrom – also known as Kristallnacht – when thousands of Jews in Germany were attacked in 1938.

— It is primarily for security reasons. Many also feel that we need to focus on our members right now. Therefore, we only do an internal ceremony, says Fredrik Sieradzki, spokesperson for the Jewish congregation in Malmö, to DN.

According to the police, the anti-Semitic hate crimes have increased avalanche-like in several places in Sweden and in other European countries as a result of the Hamas terrorist attack and Israel’s subsequent invasion of Gaza.

Even in Stockholm, the memorial moments will look different.

— Unfortunately, we have had to cut back on, above all, social gatherings. What would be needed a lot now because people are very worried, says Ute Steyer, rabbi at the Stockholm synagogue, to Swedens radio.
