(Tiper Stock Exchange) – Jet Blue Airwaystrying to protect the planned acquisition of Spirit Airlinesstated that will not appeal a US judge’s order to end the Northeast Alliance (NEA) with American Airlines. “We strongly disagree with the court’s ruling against the NEA and support the pro-competitive impact of the alliance,” it said in a statement.
Despite a “strong belief” in the competitive benefits of the NEA, JetBlue then initiated the termination of the NEA, initiating a gradual process which will take place in the coming months.
“We will now focus even more on our proposed combination with Spirit, which is the best and most effective opportunity for truly transform the competitive landscape in the United States and bring the JetBlue effect to more routes and markets across the country,” it emphasizes.
American Airlines is the bigger US airline by fleet size, while and JetBlue Airways is the sixth bigger.
