Around the country both chains and stores are closing and 2024 looks to be a gloomy year in terms of the number of bankruptcies in the country.
In Dalarna, the number of shops has decreased by eight percent between 2017 and 2023. A total of 75 shops have disappeared from the county. This is shown by figures from Handelsfakta.
The largest reduction has occurred among independent stores, which have decreased by 18 percent.
But in Orsa, the trend is the opposite. During the same period (2017-2023), the number of stores has instead increased by six percent. It is the largest increase in Dalarna county and the municipality is among the 40 or so municipalities in the country that have increased.
– There is a good business climate in the municipality. We have many driven small business owners who are inspired by each other. This means that more people dare to invest, says Linn Löfman, business developer in Orsa municipality.
One of those who dared to invest during the year is Jessika Skarin. At midsummer, she opened the doors to her new interior design shop in Orsa.
