Jessie Diggins forgot to turn on the alarm clock. So it was almost impossible for the American to even start the race he won. However, Diggins won with a huge finish.
American star Jessie Diggins made his wild revelation after his epic ski at the Goms World Cup. Diggins defeated Sweden with his high pitch Frida Karlsson in the battle for victory.
According to Aftonbladet, however, it was close that Diggins would not have had time to leave at all. Diggins had forgotten to turn on the alarm clock and had overslept. Diggins stated that a late departure would have been a disaster.
– I am very glad that I woke up. Everything happened quickly when I woke up. It woke me up, Diggins said to Aftonbladet.
He kept a fast pace on the track. Diggins leads the overall World Cup, but has struggled a bit since winning the Tour de Ski. He has been skiing with broken ribs.
– Now I can breathe after a long time. The ribs are healing. It’s nice not to hurt, Diggins said.
Diggins further clarified for SVTi that he had to throw up his breakfast, because it was so late to eat it.
In the FIS winner’s interview, the American described feeling really tired after the race, but praised his good skis.
– I just tried to go as hard as I could at the end. I couldn’t feel my legs, so I just tried to stay upright, said Diggins, who fell during the sprint on Saturday.
Sports expert Kalle Lassila was excited when he commented on the final moments of the exciting race in the commentary.
– It was a brutal competition. We kept a good pace all the time. In the last lap, we went really fast, when Karlsson and Diggins skied really hard. When the women went side by side, you didn’t know who was skiing who. In the end, it turned out that Diggins actually had powers. At the end, he was able to pull off a wild kir, Lassila described.
Diggins aired after the race that he got full points from the race. He also grabbed the bonus points distributed from the competition.
– At the end there were four heavy legs. I tried to challenge at the end, but Diggins was stronger today, Karlsson was content to describe the outcome of the race.
Already on Saturday, Diggins and Karlsson had a hard fight in the sprint events. Diggins hit Karlsson in the face with his stick. The Swedish star gave interviews to the media with a bloody scratch on his face.
