Fredrik Reinfeldt was escorted away during the terrorist act in Brussels.

Then SD member Jessica Stegrud wrote that he should have been “forced to remain without any police protection” – before she deleted the post.

“Because my tweet was misinterpreted, I chose to delete it,” she writes in a text message to Aftonbladet.

Three Swedish citizens were shot in central Brussels shortly before kick-off in the European Championship qualifier between Belgium and Sweden. Two of them have died from their injuries.

The Swedish Football Association’s chairman Fredrik Reinfeldt was escorted from the stands by security personnel after being informed of the news.

A short time later, the Sweden Democrats member of parliament Jessica Stegrud wrote an attention-grabbing tweet:

“Reinfeldt gets a police escort out of the arena – after two (probably) Swedish football fans have been killed by Islamists. He, if anyone, should have been forced to remain without any police protection,” she writes and continues:

“My thoughts go out to the dead and their relatives. My contempt goes to all the politicians – including FR – who laid the foundation for this”.

The statement provoked strong reactions to X.

“Unbelievable. By a member of Sweden’s Riksdag”, writes former Prime Minister Carl Bildt.

“This is among the most disgusting things I have ever seen from a Member of Parliament. Your tweet is a disgrace. Shame on you. And a disgrace to the office you hold,” writes Ole Jörgen Persson (M), vice chairman of the Järva district council.

“Jessica Stegrud still owes all the Swedes detained in the arena an apology for her way of politicizing a terrorist act. You don’t behave like a Member of Parliament”, writes the Moderates’ Member of Parliament Gustaf Göthberg X.

Stegrud herself says that she has been misinterpreted.

“I wish that all Swedes could feel safe – not least on their way to a football match. Of course, this also applies to Fredrik Reinfeldt. However, I do not see why those who laid the political foundation for this insecurity should have more protection than the rest of us. Because my tweet was misinterpreted, I chose to delete it,” she writes to Aftonbladet.
