Jesper Blomqvist has played for some of the world’s biggest clubs.
Now the football legend reveals which is his big favorite team.
– It has really become my team, he says to SportExpressen.
It turned out to be an absolutely brilliant career for Jesper Blomqvist who grew up in small Tavelsjö, outside Umeå, and dreamed of playing in the biggest arenas around the world. The childhood dream also came true when he left the safety of Norrland to get his big break at IFK Gothenburg.
Milan & United
Blomqvist won four SM golds with “Blåvitt” and impressed so much in the Champions League that AC Milan themselves stepped in and signed the Swede. There were both games in Milan and Parma during the time in Italy before the winger made his dream move to Manchester United itself.

There, Jesper Blomqvist would make history in the 1998/99 season when the English big club managed the perfect triple of winning the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League in the same season.
– It was a fantastic season. And it was lovely to experience that parade. But there wasn’t as much celebration as you might think. It was Manchester United – and then the focus was on next season, he says in an interview with SportExpressen.

His favorite team
The time at Manchester United was to be the Swede’s most successful time and the club has left a big mark on the man who was also involved in saving the WC bronze with Sweden in 1994. One of those who left the biggest mark was the legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson.
– A very cordial and warm person. Not at all like he seems in the papers. He really cared about people. He could come in and sing in the locker room before practices. But if we lost and he got mad. Then things could get hot. It was his way of waking up the team. Then he could bark like a madman, says Blomqvist about his former coach.

It was only three seasons at Old Trafford for the left winger as injuries began to take over his career. For the rest of his career Blomqvist was plagued by great worries and in 2003 he returned home to Sweden again for a handful of matches in Djurgården, Enköping and Hammarby.

But we should really remember a fantastic football career for Jesper Blomqvist and games in some of the world’s best clubs. But if he gets to name his absolute favorite team in his heart, it won’t be IFK Gothenburg or Milan.
– When I was growing up, I didn’t cheer for any team. Now it’s Manchester United. I have worked as an ambassador for the club for several years and play veteran matches with them. United has really become my team, he admits to the evening newspaper.
