A serious situation was seen at the Women’s Hill Jumping World Cup on February 5 in Willingen, when Jenny Rautionaho fell in the first round of his 128.5m jump.

Rautionaho fell after coming down and slid to the bottom of the hill. The Finn couldn’t get out on his own. The competition was suspended for a quarter of an hour during treatment procedures. In the end, Rautionaho was carried away from the competition venue on a stretcher.

– When I got down, the skis clicked together, and then I couldn’t tell when I was already going to the headland.

– I realized that I couldn’t breathe right away, and then when I did, I coughed up blood. I knew all was not well. When I was waiting for the ambulance, I thought at that point that yes, I could do the second round of squats here, Rautionaho laughs to .

“After all, the knees remained intact”

During Rautionaho’s career, there have been serious knee injuries that have required long periods of recovery. This time, he noticed immediately after his fall that his knees were not hurt.

– After all, the knees remained intact. When I got my legs hooked and straight on that ground, that was a good sign.

What was the Finn’s hospital trip like?

– There was some cosmetic trouble on the face and then there was something in the lungs. That’s why they kept me in the hospital for three days. The back of the ear was glued on. Otherwise I was fine.

“It would have been worse if something had happened in the air”

Rautionaho assures that there were no mental bruises from the dramatic fall.

– Not left. Those crashes always happen from time to time. It would have been worse if something had happened in the air. When you fall down, nothing is left of it. At least I’m already waiting to get my skis on right away.

Rautionaho only got permission from the doctors last Friday to start full training and jumping. Just five days from now, on Wednesday, February 22, the women’s HS100 hill qualifying competition will be contested at the World Ski Championships.

– I’m doing fine. I still had to go for lung scans to dare to train to the fullest.

This season has been the most successful for the 26-year-old Rautionaho so far and she has been the number one female ski jumper in Finland. He has jumped into the World Cup points in 13 races this winter.

Planica hill is not a favorite in terms of profile

Rautionaho, preparing for the third prize competition, has had to push back a little on Planica’s goals.

– I’m going to do (at the World Championships) the steady and good basic jumps that I did before Willingen fell. That’s when my curve started going up. When I can do those (jumps) in a relaxed manner in the competition, then they are sufficient for what they are sufficient for.

Planica’s MM hill is not Rautionaho’s favorite, although he is very familiar with it.

– In the summer, we camped here a lot, and there have been many jumps from the hill. You may not have your own favorites in your profile. I can jump (from a hill) and there have been some good jumps, but they have been a bit such that when I have come down from a high place, my knees have been a bit hard.

Rautionaho is known for the fact that he likes to tackle big hills. If necessary, he would jump from the Planica airfield, for example.

– Without a doubt, I would go. But yes, I would still go to Vikersund first, when it is the tamest. I already said when I was 7 years old that Planica’s flying hill was my goal. You also have to get to Vikersund.
