Jennifer Lawrence rose to stardom with The Hunger Games and, years later, still looks back on the four films in the series with joy. This year, the prequel The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will be released on November 16, 2023 and the actress has already revealed that she “100% back” would be if she received the offer. But she didn’t have this euphoria from the start. In fact, she was against the entire Hunger Games film adaptation for the cinema.

The reason for Jennifer Lawrence’s reluctance to do a film adaptation was that she had made one long before that big fan of the book trilogy * was published by author Suzanne Collins between 2008 and 2010. In an interview, she revealed in retrospect that she didn’t think the films could do justice to the novels:
I had read and loved all three books. When I heard they wanted to make a movie out of it, I thought: ‘Great. Another great book ruined by a movie franchise.’ I was so against it.
The then 21-year-old Jennifer Lawrence even came prepared for the casting interview with Gary Ross in 2011 read the riot act to the filmmaker and explain to him why a theatrical version of The Hunger Games is a bad idea:

After Jennifer Lawrence and Gary Ross found each other, their concerns were allayed and the Winter’s Bone star was cast as the lead. Whereby most fans of the novels will probably agree that, despite some weaknesses, a worthy adaptation has succeeded in the end.
