Missed Fantasy Opportunity: Jennifer Lawrence went to the Twilight audition without success
Before Stephenie Meyer’s four Twilight novels were made into five parts between 2008 and 2012, the starring fantasy bestseller, Bella Swan, was a character many young stars had their eyes on. Ultimately, Kristen Stewart landed the part of the teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire. But Jennifer Lawrence also went to the audition at the time.
In a podcast episode of The Rewatchables, Jennifer Lawrence, now best known for The Hunger Games, recalled the casting:
I auditioned for Twilight and they turned me down straight away. I didn’t even get a call back to get into the second round. But my life would have been completely different. I got my Hunger Games role about a year later, I think.

Whether Jennifer Lawrence was simply out of the question as Bella in the eyes of Catherine Hardwicke and the Twilight makers, or whether there was too much competition: As a thought experiment, it is always exciting to see the actress alongside Robert introduce Pattinson. However, Lawrence did not achieve star status as a fantasy star, but only with X-Men: First Class (2011) and the sci-fi series The Hunger Games (2012-2015).
In the end, before this year’s Hunger Games revival, the only question that remains is whether Jennifer Lawrence (as with the Hunger Games) was also a fan of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight books and actually opposed a film adaptation of the novel, even though she applied for it.
