Spanish soccer star Jennifer Hermoso opened up her views at the media conference before the Nations League final.
Spanish national team star Jennifer Hermoso has stepped in front of the international press for the first time since the World Cup kissing scandal. Spain will meet France on Wednesday night in the Nations League final, and with the final place, the team also claimed a place in the Paris Olympics.
Hermoso tells the BBCthat football is still his life, even after six long months and the ongoing trial of the former president of the Spanish Football Federation From Luis Rubiale against. Rubiales forcibly kissed Hermoso at the award ceremony of the summer 2023 World Cup final.
– A lot has happened since then. The process has been difficult and it has involved understanding many things.
“Soccer gives me life”
Hermoso, 33, was out of Spain’s national team action after the bout, but was named in the squad again in October.
Hermoso says that he is enjoying the moments with his sport again, even though the last few months have been extremely challenging.
– It is personally really important to play in the final again. I’m fine, football still gives me the life I need. I want to continue playing in the national team and at the club level, said Hermoso, who represents Mexican Tigres.
Hermoso stresses that he appreciates football again and wearing the shirt of the Spanish national football team.
– I hope we win the final of the evening. If we win, we will make history again. We have written a lot of history in a short time. What could be better than a team that feels like champions in every way.
Spain will face France in the Nations League final on Wednesday night. The final concludes the first women’s Nations League tournament in history.
Finland won its B-League group and thus rose to the A-League level for the next Nations League.
The WC gold has not brought any change
The kissing case brought women’s football and the power relations involved in the sport into the spotlight in a new way. Awarded as the best soccer player in the world Fence Bonmati said that the culture around Spanish women’s football has not changed, however.
– Unfortunately, I cannot say that the events of the World Cup have produced change in our country, Bonmati told France’s L’Equipe.
Bonmati compares her country to England, where women’s football took enormous steps of development, including at the national level.
– I have the feeling that the World Cup has had no purpose.
Head coach of the Spanish women’s national team Jorge Vilda was also dismissed in September, and he is one of the persons under investigation. The current head coach of the team is Montse Tome.
