Jenna Ortega is set to rescue comedy horror that has been simmering in development hell for 33 years — with Wednesday director Tim Burton

Jenna Ortega is set to rescue comedy horror that has

When Jenna Ortega talks about filming her Netflix series Wednesday, it doesn’t sound very pleasant. Either because of creative differences or because she had to step in front of the camera despite having Covid symptoms. But that doesn’t stop her from working again with Wednesday director Tim Burton on the long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice 2.

Jenna Ortega in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2? That is known

Nothing is certain yet, but this is the status:

  • Jenna Ortega is interested in a bigger role in Beetlejuice 2, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
  • She would play the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character Lydia from the first part.
  • Tim Burton is directing again, Michael Keaton is set to return as Beetlejuice, and so is Ryder.
  • Should Jenna Ortega sign, Beetlejuice 2 will probably be filmed in May or June. This would allow the sequel to escape from development hell after 33 years

The plans for Beetlejuice 2 go back to 1990

    Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice was released in 1988, and two years later Tim Burton began work on the sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. The stars also wanted to return for this, but nothing came of the sequel. As a result, writers as diverse as Kevin Smith and Seth Grahame-Smith worked on ideas for a sequel, but decades passed without Beetlejuice 2 becoming a reality. This could change now. In 2022 Warner Bros. (again) announced the sequel and after a while Tim Burton also admitted to being involved in it.

    What is Beetlejuice about?

    Beetlejuice, released in 1988, is a horror comedy about a so-called bio-exorcist who disrupts a family’s life.

Barbara and Adam Maitland (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) are newlyweds. But the two die in a car accident and have to stay in their house for 125 years from now on. As soon as they want to leave it, instead of landing outside the house, they land on Saturn, to be pursued by a giant sandworm. Even the Afterlife Authority cannot help them. When a new family finally moves into the house – Delia (Catherine O’Hara), Charles (Jeffrey Jones) and daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) – the Maitlands never have a quiet moment. They try to chase the family out of the house with all the spooky means.

To do this, they call for help from the poltergeist Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), who always comes when you say his name three times and disappears again through the same ritual. But Beetlejuice will stop at nothing and soon the Maitlands will have to do everything they can to get rid of him.

There is no release date for Beetlejuice 2 yet. If the film is really shot from May, a release in 2024 is conceivable. In view of the history of the project, one should keep one’s own optimism about the realization within bounds.
