Stig Asmussen, the director behind the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, is leaving Respawn Entertainment and EA.
Stig Asmussen, who is at the helm of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, severed his ties with Respawn Entertainment and EA and sought new experiences. Asmussen, who has been in the gaming industry for nearly a quarter of a century, directed Fallen Order before Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The last game was a great commercial success, receiving full marks from critics. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor inherited the legacy of Fallen Order, offering players an even richer experience. However, the team that will continue this popular series will continue without Asmussen’s leadership.
Journalist Jason Schreier announced that Stig Asmussen, the name behind these two big games, has ended his relationship with Respawn and EA. EA confirmed this information and said, “Asmussen left our company to pursue new experiences.”
Stig Asmussen leaves Respawn Entertainment and EA
After Asmussen’s departure, EA stated that Respawn’s experienced leaders will take over the project. Although there is no statement yet on whether a new Star Wars Jedi game will be made, it is possible that we will see a sequel considering the success of the previous games. Respawn’s search for a new playwright also strengthens this expectation. Asmussen has talked about his plans for the trilogy in the past, but even if these plans come true, he will no longer be involved in this project.
Asmussen is a valuable name not only for EA but also for the gaming world. He also took part in the God of War trilogy years ago. If a new Star Wars Jedi game is planned, this could give opportunity for other talents to shine in Asmussen’s absence. EA CEO stated that Respawn is working on new and exciting projects, but it is not yet clear whether this project is a new Star Wars Jedi game.
PS4 and Xbox One versions of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are currently in preparation. There is no date yet for when the game will be released. However, the future of versions for last generation consoles may not prevent the next game from being made. Also, considering that an update was received in early September, it looks like the team is continuing to work on making its current version even better.
