The Jazz’n’klezmer festival in Ile-de-France celebrates its 20th anniversary with its 3 keywords: Yiddish, klezmer and jazz. The Marx Sisters and Boogie Balagan, on the bill in 2022, will perform 2 titles in the #SessionLive and Laurence Haziza, artistic director will present 2 groups on the bill: Jowee Omicil & Randy Kerber and Yemen Blues.
Who are the Marx Sisters?
Marx is their real name. It’s nice to take a look at Groucho, Chico or Harpo, nothing helps, they are indeed sisters and they sing in Yiddish. Marx Sisters is a French group of Jewish music ashkenazi coming from Yiddishland from Central Europe, but also performs a repertoire of songs by musical comedies of composers jews of United States. The group was founded by Mano Siri in 2012. The group continues the repertoire Yiddish and klezmer in what is festive and universal.
The group began as a family duo: Mano Siri accompanied her daughter Leah Marx on the guitar with the idea of perpetuating a traditional Ashkenazi repertoire. The duo becomes quartet when Mano Siri’s other two daughters, Judith Marx and Milena Marx decide to join. The group extends to two musicians from the circle of acquaintances: Raphaël Setty and Benjamin Chabert. The group forms a quintetoccasionally supported in certain performances by guest musicians. Arum dem Fayer is the 2th album of Marx Sisters dedicated to mother Mano Siri, now deceased.
