The actor Jason Momoaknown from Aquaman and Game of Thrones, among others, recently had his nearly 100-year-old Rolls Royce converted to electric operation.
The car in question is a 1929 Phantom II, and in a statement, Momoa talks about the importance of properly managing the car’s historical value during the conversion.
It was therefore important to find the right company for the conversion.
Converted by Electrogenic
The choice fell on British Electrogenic, who have become known for converting classic cars to electric drive.
The company has the stated goal that all the cars they convert should be able to be restored to original, and in addition to custom builds, they also sell complete conversion kits for certain popular models of vintage cars.

A well-preserved exterior
On the outside, Momoa’s Rolls Royce has retained its classic good looks from the late 20s, and nothing reveals that the car has a significantly younger powertrain.

When you open the long hood, where there was originally a straight six of 7.7 liters, however, we now find a well-sized battery pack of 93 kWh.
In order for the appearance under the hood to fit in with the overall aesthetics of the car, the battery has been covered with a cover made of riveted aluminium.

Not a bed of roses
The power comes from an electric motor of 204 horsepower, which corresponds to around four times the original power. In addition to the conversion of the powertrain itself, the old Rolls Royce presented a number of additional challenges.

Among other things, a pump had to be installed to drive the lubrication system for the chassis, which is normally driven by the engine.
With so much extra performance, they also had to review the braking system, which now also works in tandem with the regenerative braking action from the engine.

A successful result
In the interior, the original gauges that are no longer used have been given new information. The old tank gauge, for example, now shows the charge in the battery, while the ampere gauge shows how much power is being consumed or regenerated.
Otherwise, the beautiful original interior, with its wood, leather and intricate details, has been preserved in period style.
According to Steve Drummond at Electrogenic, the car is fantastic to drive, offering a quiet, relaxed and graceful driving experience.
What Jason Momoa thinks of the finished car can be seen in an episode of his new documentary series On the Roam on Discovery+.
