JYVÄSKYLÄ.

Latvala! Latvala!

When the Toyota team manager Jari-Matti Latvala steps out of his car at the port of Jyväskylä at the end of the first day of the Jyväskylä World Rally Championship, he is met by really enthusiastic young children.

They’re actually thirsty for the autograph of Latvala, who returned for one race. They shout the name of the Finnish rally champion several times. Even when Latvala has already confirmed that he will come to group photos and sign autographs in a moment.

Moments earlier, Latvala had become his map reader Juho Hännenen with Harju to the finish line of the city special test. Latvala described the atmosphere in the goal in his joy.

– I’m really happy when I got back. This is a great opportunity, good feelings, Latvala beamed.

– 20 years ago, when I drove for the first time in Jyväskylä, my vision was to leave from excitement. It was a completely different feeling now, Latvala compared.

When in the harbor Latvala is asked about the moment of the first day of competition, the Finn recalls why he is behind the wheel. In the last twenty years, Latvala has been able to drive almost all cars in the WRC classification.

Now he is experiencing the latest, i.e. Rally1 car, which utilizes hybrid technology.

– Has gotten into the car. It’s been the biggest thing. I have learned a lot, Latvala describes.

The 38-year-old Latvala has had time to admire even the audience cheering him on.

– People remember me and encourage me incredibly before the special exams. It’s amazing, Latvala, who drove in the World Rally Championship for the last time in Sweden in 2020, expressed the mood.

The enthusiasm of the Finn, who has driven the most World Cup rally races of all time, has also been noted among his racing partners.

– Enthusiasm is like a balloon. That’s how it should be when you get the chance. Rally has been Jari-Mat’s life. It’s really nice that he is able to enjoy himself and hopefully he will be able to enjoy himself for the rest of the race, Esapekka Lappi describes.

At the finish line of Harju’s special test, Lapland’s team mate was also seen From Thierry Neuville elegant gesture. Neuville, who also competed against Latvala for a long time, admired Latvala’s performance.

– I hope that Jari-Matti enjoys this weekend. We know how much he loves to drive. This is a wonderful opportunity for him. I would be really happy if I got a similar opportunity after quitting, Neuville dreamed.

Neuville continued his incense for Urheilu later in the service park.

– Jari-Matti is a really honest guy. Maybe sometimes too much. He has never changed. He does what he likes, Neuville beamed.

Rovanperä opened up about why he doesn’t like Harju

Neuville enjoyed Harju once again and was caught in the bottom time, until his former teammate Ott Tänak took first place by 0.7 seconds. Neuville has often been under attack at Harju.

He explained the matter by saying that he likes city special tests anyway. The top name of the World Cup Kalle Rovanperä was third, losing to Neuville by 0.1 seconds.

Unlike Neuville, Rovanperä has had time to say a couple of times this week in different interviews that he doesn’t like Harju’s special exam. He thought his performance was good, especially because he had pulled wide in one point.

– The ridge has just been made extra tight with all the concrete. The ridge is drivable and a nice bit, but it’s not fun going around rocks and concrete all the time. Can’t go easy. Pätkä is pretty driving, which is often the case with city special tests. The ridge is still being driven between rocks, Rovanperä explained to Urheilu his distaste for the piece.

In any case, Rovanperä enjoyed great popularity with the clip. The Finns were very encouraged in the windows.

– Unbelievable atmosphere, I could feel how well we received encouragement from the spectators. Not the kind of clip I like, but a great feeling when there were so many people, Rovanperä thanked the rally people of Jyväskylä at the finish of the Harju special stage.
