Järfälla joins forces against domestic violence – property managers must detect cases of abuse

– If we have seen something suspicious, the real estate company makes a report of concern or takes it to the police, says Alper Etirli, who is the property manager at Järfällahus.

The campaign “Not alone” is the name of the collaboration between social services, the women’s shelter in Järfälla, the municipality’s housing company Järfällahus and the police. The collaboration aims to prevent and combat violence in close relationships and has existed for a couple of years following a decision by the municipal council. Since police officers from Crime in Close Relationship, the BIN group, became involved, the cooperation has gained momentum.

– The violence in close relationships is unfortunately pushed aside by explosions and shootings, which is tragic. Our goal is to get it on the agenda, says Riku Lindqvist, who is group manager in Crime in a close relationship.

More police reports on abuse of women

In the first quarter of 2024, 1,342 cases of abuse against women in the Stockholm police region were reported to the police – an increase of seven percent compared to the same period last year. This shows preliminary figures from the Crime Prevention Council, BRÅ. In all cases, the perpetrator and the victim were familiar with each other and the assault must have taken place indoors. In the whole country, police reports increased by almost four percent, to 4,827 reports.

So far this year, twelve women in Sweden have died from violence in a close relationship. One who lived with a violent man is Anna – hear her story here.
