Japan set new goals for reducing climate emissions Brief news

According to environmental organizations, the goals should have been clearly stricter.

Japan plans to reduce its climate emissions by 60 percent compared to the 2013 emission level. The country’s government today decided on new emission cutting goals.

Until now, the country was only valid until 2030, which was 46 % of the 2013 level.

Japan is still very dependent on fossil energy. It was now also set to be the target for the country to receive most of its energy from renewable sources in 2040.

According to environmental organizations, the government’s surgery targets are not sufficient for the country to complete the records of the Paris Climate Convention. For example, the 360.org organization demanded that 81 % of the emissions should be removed by 2035.
