Japan reopens its borders but with moderation

(Finance) – Japan has relaxed the containment measures of Covid-19, opening the borders to foreign tourists, for the first time in two years. The opening of national borders concerns tourists from 98 countries believed to have a low risk of Covid-19 infection, including Italy, the United States, Great Britain, China, South Korea, Thailand and Singapore.

Openness, yes, but with many limits: access will be allowed only to organized trips by registered tour operators, with a ceiling of 20 thousand arrivals every day, which they guarantee the use of masks even outdoors and other contagion containment measures, such as the signing of a health insurance policy for medical services.

The partial recovery of international tourism was decided by Premier Fumio Kishida following the pressures received by political parties and interest groups, to reactivate a profitable business that has suffered the backlash of the pandemic.
