Local authorities in Okinawa have called on more than 760,000 residents of these southern Japanese islands to evacuate their homes and seek shelter in shelters as Typhoon Khanun approaches on Tuesday (August 1). As it hits the Pacific Ocean hard, the typhoon is expected to hit the area overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
