Japan, manufacturing PMI falls to 47.9 but exceeds expectations

Japan leading indicator confirmed with a slight decline in June

(Finance) – Manufacturing activity in Japan is confirmed to be contracting in December 2023. The manufacturing PMI index, published by Markit and processed by Jibun Bank, indicates a value of 47.9 points.

The figure compares with the 48.3 points of November, but is slightly higher than 47.7 expected by analysts. The indicator therefore remains below the critical threshold of 50 points, indicating a contraction in activity and recession in the economy.
