The Japan Expo is open to people of all ages, who come to the conferences, signing sessions, previews and cosplay contests that are organized there. The event was launched in 1999 by Jean-François Dufour, Sandrine Dufour and Thomas Sirdey. The latter had used the associative space of his Epita business school, a garage, to launch the event. After a brief stint at the CNIT in La Défense in 2006, Japan Expo then moved to the Villepinte exhibition hall in Seine-Saint-Denis. Since then, more than 250,000 visitors have come to Japan Expo (whereas in its beginnings, it only brought together 2,400 visitors) and this success is now exported to Marseille with Japan Expo Sud, and to California. .
