Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still injured and has been out of action since spring.
But national team captain Janne Andersson is optimistic about having “Ibra” back in the Swedish national team soon.
– I hope he comes back to the national team, Andersson says to Fotbollskanalen.
After securing the league victory with his AC Milan last spring was forced Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a knee operation that would keep the 41-year-old out of action until after the turn of the year. As the calendar year 2023 now approaches, the federation captain tells Jan Andersson about the contact with Ibrahimovic, and the hope to soon see him in the national team again.
– We have had a little contact via SMS. It has been that I have checked the situation with the rehab, how it is going, that everything is good, and congratulated on the birthday. So we have had a little contact, says the national team captain to the Football channel.

Want to see Zlatan in the national team again
The last stay in the national team was in March earlier this year in connection with Sweden losing against Poland, a loss which meant that blue and yellow missed out on a place in the WC.

Ibrahimovic has so far accounted for 61 goals in 121 international matches – but if Janne Andersson’s wish comes true, there could be more than that. A comeback doesn’t seem to be too far away either, as the road back from the injury is going in the right direction.
– I haven’t heard anything negative. I hope he comes back to the national team, Andersson tells the football site.

Opens for leadership role: “Was stupid”
Should it turn out that Ibrahimovic played his last match in the blue and yellow suit after all, Janne Andersson sees an opening in using “the tall one” in his leadership staff. Something that he declared after Sweden’s exit against Poland in March.
– With his experience and personality, I would be a fool if I didn’t want to use him in some way, on the field or off the field, Andersson said in a statement at the time.
