Golden eagle Janne Ahonen got a feel for hill jumping today in Ounasvaara after a long break.
The morning workouts were missed in one jump.
– I said afterwards that it doesn’t get any worse, even if more people jump. Just to the race in the evening!
The experienced mountaineer on the upper platform of Hyppyrimäki was horrified, even though he had done some thinking about it.
– It took me a while to think about why we are here again.
Ahonen ended his career in 2018. After that, however, he has jumped from time to time. A year ago, he took part in the SM bronze from Suurmäki and won the show jumping at the Lahti Ski Club’s 100th anniversary celebrations. He stated that he no longer jumps from a hill smaller than the big one.
– It’s not worth promising much. Last time a year ago I said I wouldn’t jump, but here we are again. It was more scary now here in Rovaniemi in the jumping tower than in Lahti a year ago.
Will father or son win?
Ahonen has not practiced actively for years. This year, his ski jumping training has been in ‘s broadcasts in the role of an expert and acting as a commentator.
– All activity comes from the subconscious. There has been no feeling of snow, no feeling of skis… What is coming off now comes purely from the spine.
The feeling is like a little boy in a sledding hill.
– At this point, you can only enjoy and rejoice in this sport.
Pekka Ruuskan Raphael’s angel asks who will win, the bear or the lion. When Ahosen is asked who will win, the father or his son Mico Ahonenhe chuckles.
– Father and son in the competition again at the same time and this time we are in a situation where I believe and hope that Mico will win. But I’ll put it in the combs!
During Janne Ahonen’s active career, Mico never beat his father.
