The Hill Jumping World Cup is currently culminating in the Raw Air tour in Norway. It made Janne Ahonen reminisce about the old days at Urheilustudio.
At the end of the season, the so-called Raw Air tour is currently running in the Hill Jumping World Cup. This year, the Raw Air tour culminates the World Cup season in Oslo, Trondheim and Vikersund.
Now the men’s tour is on the program for the seventh time. Urheilu’s ski jumping expert Janne Ahonen managed to jump at the end of his career also with Raw Air. One time he skipped all the way through the tour, but the other time the tour ended quickly.
Ahonen qualified from the opening race of Holmenkollen in Oslo. Ahonen had immediately started looking for flights back to Finland when he got back to the hotel.
– I saw that in a few hours the plane would leave from Oslo to Helsinki. I bought the tickets for myself without asking anyone. Then we had an Austrian Andreas Mitter as head coach. I went to knock on his door and told him that my plane was leaving in a couple of hours and goodbye, Ahonen described in Urheilustudio.
In his own opinion, Ahosen also had a good reason to go to Finland.
– When I was browsing the flight schedules, I was at the same time shopping for a motorcycle. I found a bike that I was interested in. We closed a little shop. I came home. The next morning, I had made a purchase for the bike in question, Ahonen said.
That bike can still be found at Ahos.
– Such opportunities are rare, Ahonen smiled.
