Chairman of the Olympic Committee Jan Vapaavuori does not apply for another extension period. He announced it on Sunday in the X service.
– There is no single reason for this, but it is the sum of many and many types of factors, some of which are personal. I am not going to comment on these reasons in more detail, he wrote.
Vapaavuori has been in his position since the end of 2020.
Vapaavuori has been the subject of heavy criticism since the Paris Olympics. Finland was historically left without a medal at the Summer Olympics.
Earlier this week it was announced that Matti Heikkinen will not continue as the head of the top sports unit and Leena Paavolainen as the manager of sports competition programs.
Heikkinen only had time to work in his laundry for just over two years.
– A significant new beginning was needed, and then you have to think about strategies, structures as well as people, Vapaavuori justified the decisions.
The presidential election of the Olympic Committee will be held in November.
