In Malmö, the European table tennis championships are currently taking place. There compete among others Truls Möregårdh21. On Tuesday, the great table tennis talent led Sweden to group victory after their double victories against the Czech Republic.
Möregårdh’s role models
Someone who has previously been where Möregårdh is now is Jan-Ove Waldner57. The Swedish table tennis legend has, among other things, won eleven EC golds, six WC golds, one Olympic gold and has won two World Cup victories.

According to Waldner, Möregårdh looks up to him, something he tells DN.
– He can sit and watch video of matches for as long as he wants. Ask questions, absorb everything and check our old matches. Truls knows all my matches. It’s fun that he is so interested in above all me and Jörgen Persson and our game.

JO Waldner’s tribute
With JO Waldner’s many victories, you can probably say that he knows what it takes to be a champion.

And Truls Möregårdh lives up to that, says the 57-year-old.
– He was born with that look and perception of the game. He understands the whole thing. Plus he loves ping pong. Everyone who reaches the world elite in sports is a little special… you have to be a little crazy… or should I say love the sport. He has it.
– I already said five years ago that he would be top five in the world. He can live in the hall for a whole week. That’s how everyone who reaches the top is, says the former world champion.
