Jan-Ove Waldner puts his foot down against Truls Möregårdh

Truls Möregårdh was a great success during the Summer Olympics.
Now he meets childhood idol Jan-Ove Waldner in a historic duel.
Then JO reveals the secret text messages he sent to the feat hero Truls.

It is an iconic meeting in SVT when both Jan-Ove Waldner and Truls Möregårdh guests of the TV program “Carina Bergfeldt” tonight. Where Waldner is one of our most important sports heroes of all time with quite a few gold medals at home in the prize cabinet.

Truls and JO

Möregårdh is the new table tennis star who has taken Swedish sports by storm. During the summer Olympics, he charmed the entire Swedish people during his journey to double Olympic silver in Paris.

Truls Möregårdh now reveals his relationship with childhood idol Jan-Ove Waldner.
– I always think I have good contact with JO and if I did really well then he writes something, he says in the SVT program this evening.
– It only happens sometimes, haha. You can’t be on too much. Most of the time it’s shorter things, because I know that there are many people who get in touch. I usually write: “Drive hard, good luck, it looks good”, admits JO himself.

Secret SMS

But Waldner also reveals the secret text messages in which he was clear about his criticism of the young heir.
– At some point I may have been on him, says the table tennis icon.
– I know that JO was incredibly tired of me losing to Wang Chuqin in the same way every time, so I heard it from JO one evening. He said: “Now you better stop backhanding him”. And then at the Olympics I managed to pull it off and beat him. So that was a good tip!, says Truls with a laugh.

JO Waldner, who is called “Lao Wa” (Old Waldner) in China, may also give his very own nickname to Möregårdh.
– Little Lao Wa or Lao Wa Junior, says JO in the TV program.
– That sounds great, I think, replies Truls.

Then they meet for the first time ever in an exhibition ball in the TV box and there old turns out to be oldest, see the video below.
– Well played, damn well!, says JO to Truls.

On Friday evening, the episode of the talk show “Carina Bergfeldt” is shown at 21.00 on SVT.
