Jan-Ove Waldner offers a powerful show in the table tennis match against Mats Sundin and Nicklas Lidström: “King”

Here’s the ping pong match everyone’s talking about.
During “An evening for Börje”, Jan-Ove Waldner challenged hockey icons Mats Sundin and Nicklas Lidström.
And the ball genius then offered a powerful display – without a racket.

On Wednesday evening, the gala “An evening for Börje” was held at Berns in Stockholm. The evening was organized by the organization Börje Salming’s ALS Foundation and the purpose of the gala was to honor the late Börje Salming and raise money for ALS research.

Swedish athletes and celebrities had gathered for the evening, which became extremely emotional with both tears and laughter. To lighten the mood, the audience was treated to the most unique table tennis match of all time up on stage.

On one half of the field the hockey giants Mats Sundin and Nicklas Lidström in a team. On the other half of the court, the table tennis icon formed Jan-Ove Waldner team up with Sweden’s commander-in-chief Micael Bydén.

JO was good friends with Börje Salming and in honor of the evening he invited everyone to an incredible show. At the end of the gala, all four squared off in a double match and Waldner excelled as usual, see the video below.

But he still gave the hockey guys a real advantage by playing without a racket and with a mobile phone(!) instead. The match was also played on a mini table and, to the great cheers of the audience, Waldner and Bydén were able to win.

Immediately after the match, Jan-Ove Waldner signed the small ping pong table which will now be auctioned for the benefit of Börje Salming’s ALS foundation. A video from the historic ping pong match is out on Instagram with the powerful words: “Still king”, see the video below.
