Truls Möregårdh lost the Olympic final in table tennis.
But won the hearts of the Swedish people for his feat.
Now Jan-Ove Waldner says what everyone is thinking after the impressive Olympic silver.
Not many had expected that Truls Möregårdh would reach all the way to the Olympic final in Paris. But after one feat after another, the 22-year-old exceeded all expectations.
Trul’s big hit
Möregårdh became the first Swede in 24 long years to reach the Olympic final in table tennis and created total ping pong fever throughout Sweden. But in the final against the Chinese Damn Zhendong it was way too tough.

Despite taking a 1-0 lead in sets, Truls lost the match 1-4 in sets on Sunday. Afterwards, the Swedish success man received a much-deserved Olympic silver medal.
Waldner’s words
Now he is praised to the skies by the icon Jan-Ove Waldnerwho was the last Swede to reach the Olympic final.
– What a match it was! He wins the first set and might even lead 3-0 if he had a little more fluency. But he had to get another set there. He lies in and does a few special balls, a straight smash and then that one under the table. He really had to show the whole registry. Unbelievable!, says a very impressed JO to Radiosporten.
– It’s an absolutely fantastic tournament and he stands up well in the final. So it’s absolutely huge! A really good final and it’s just a matter of congratulations on a great match and ping pong fever.

Also the legend Ulf “Tickan” Carlsson is full of admiration for the new Swedish table tennis star.
– He falls with the flag at the top. It’s an incredibly good match where Fan Zhendong plays an insanely good ping pong and unfortunately Truls doesn’t get anything in the second and third sets when he has some leads, it’s two sets that end with a margin of two points. If he had brought any of them, it could have been a completely different match, says Carlsson, who is an expert at the radio channel.
– It’s just to congratulate Zhendong on the gold medal, he is the best in the tournament and Truls Möregårdh is the second best in the tournament. He has made a lot of good matches in the tournament and is also making a good final. Two incredibly talented players.

Above all, “Tickan” thinks that it is particularly impressive that Möregårdh had such an incredibly tough road to the Olympic final.
– On the journey to the final, he has beaten some of the world’s absolute best players, which only makes the achievement even greater. There has been no luck in the draw for Truls, but he has really deserved to reach the final, says the ping pong profile in the interview.
