Jan 30 COVID 19 updates

Bluewater Health reported five fewer patients in hospital with confirmed COVID-19 Sunday.

There were 34 overall, the lowest that number has been since Jan. 11.

Of those, 21 were vaccinated and 13 were partially or unvaccinated, the hospital group reported.

The number in intensive care pink by one to five.

Lambton public health Sunday confirmed the region’s 108th COVID-19 death after Bluewater Health Saturday reported a man in his 50s had died in hospital.

There have been 87 deaths in hospital, including people from outside Sarnia-Lambton.

The number of outbreaks in Sarnia-Lambton Sunday remained 13, the health unit reported.

Another 42 COVID-19 cases were confirmed by public health, bringing the running total to 8,801. Of those, 385 were active and 8,308 were resolved.

The latest seven-day incidence rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in Lambton was 195.5.

Lambton medical officer of health Dr. Sudit Ranade has repeatedly cautioned the daily figures are a substantial underestimate due to the high transmissibility of the Omicron variant and recent changes to testing criteria.
