The Southern Ring Nebula (NGC 3132), observed by two instruments. On the left the image was taken by NIRCam while the one on the right by Miri. NGC 3132 is a planetary nebula, that is, an expanding cloud of gas surrounding a dying star. It measures nearly half a light-year in diameter and is located about 2,000 light-years from Earth. It echoes the famous Ring Nebula, M 57, visible in Lyra. © NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, and the Webb ERO Production Team
