Krypto will hit the big screen in Superman this summer. Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a foster home with 60 other dogs in a backyard and didn’t know any peoplewas problematic, to say the least. As soon as he was with us, he destroyed our apartment, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he even let us touch him.

I remember thinking, ‘Man, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?’ – And That’s how Krypto came into the script and changed the shape of history, just as Ozu changed my life. It’s not the first time that Gunn has campaigned for animals in one of his films. Essentially, the entire story of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is one Declaration of love for animals.
