Avatar 2: The Way of Water, James Cameron’s new science fiction epic, is said to be over three hours (!) long. The director of Titanic is known for long running times. He hasn’t finished a film under two hours since Terminator in the distant 1984.
Nevertheless, the running time of the Na’vi adventure makes you sit up and take notice. Why is part 2 half an hour longer than avatar 1?
This is what James Cameron says about the running time of Avatar 2
Avatar 2: The Way of the Avatar is said to be around 190 minutes long, although the official running time has not yet been announced. In contrast, the departure for Pandora 2009 was content with an “entertaining” 162 minutes. In an interview with Total Film, James Cameron explained how the difference in the Runtime of Avatar 2 comes:
The goal is to tell an extremely compelling story on an emotional basis. I would say the The focus of the new film is more on the charactersmore on the story, more on the relationships.
More feelings than in the first part
Avatar 1, introducing all the major characters and the world of Pandora, does not come off particularly well:
We have in the first movie less value on relationships and feelings than we do in the second film, and it’s a longer film because there are more characters to deal with. There is more to tell.
Whether intentional or not, Cameron agrees with one here recurring criticism of Avatar 1 match. The first film’s effects were praised, but the Jake and Neytiri storyline didn’t even remotely unleash the passion that Jack and Rose ignited in Titanic.
There was no lack of emotionally intense scenes between the two in Aufbruch nach Pandora, as the whole film was about a forbidden love between the fronts. So the big question ahead of Avatar 2: The Way of the Water is not only will there be more emotional scenes, but also, whether they were written better than was the case with its predecessor.
When are the Avatar series sci-fi blockbusters coming?
Avatar 2 will be released on December 14, 2022 come to the cinema. Avatar 3 is scheduled for release on December 18, 2024. Hopefully, in late 2026 and 2028, Avatar 4 and 5 will be released.
