The 007 role tends to outshine all other actor’s accomplishments. That may also apply to Daniel Craig. In addition to the British agent, many of his other appearances are neglected. One of the best of these is now available to watch on Netflix. In Infatuation by Master Director David Fincher (Fight Club) as a journalist he wades through a black swamp of human cruelty.
On Netflix: James Bond star Daniel Craig plays acclaimed crime thriller character
Convicted of defamation, journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) is tasked with solving a secret for entrepreneur Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer). In the mid-1960s, his young niece disappeared without a trace, since then, a stranger has sent him black flowers every year for his birthday. Together with the hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), Blomkvist goes in search of clues. And reveals an unbelievably gruesome secret.
Fincher’s film is based on the first book in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, which was recently brought to the big screen by director Niels Arden Oplev. The Fight Club maker creates an extremely dense, dark atmosphere, in which the disturbing finale has a special effect.
The film’s clout is due in no small part to the merits of Craig, Mara and cast mate Stellan Skarsgård. Rarely have the dusty family secrets felt so much like horror on screen. Even the beautiful Swedish countryside feels like in infatuation a vast realm of crime scenes.
