Ever since Daniel Craig gave up his James Bond role after No Time To Die, there has been speculation about a possible 007 successor. For many years, Idris Elba was also one of these hotly traded candidates, but now the Marvel star has found clear words as to why he no longer wants it.
Deterred: Why Idris Elba no longer wants to be James Bond
After Idris Elba pointed out last year that a 10-year engagement as Bond could disqualify him as a new martini sip, he now found clear words about his James Bond story in a Variety interview:
The truth is that I totally flattered for a long time was, [in Betracht gezogen zu werden]. […] It’s one of the most coveted roles. Being asked to play James Bond means you’ve hit the peak. This is one of those casts where she has a say in the whole world.
He explained why Idris Elba is now rejecting an agent future in the iconic James Bond role as follows:

Basically it was a big compliment, in so many corners of the world […] to be considered. [Nur] those who have the idea [von mir als James Bond] were not happy, have the whole made gross and off-putting because it became a skin color debate. Nonsense came into focus and I got the broadside of it.
The debate, which often descended into racist discussions, as to whether a black actor was “allowed” to play James Bond, ended up spoiling Idris Elba’s idea of slipping into the 007 suit. In particular, because as an actor he doesn’t always want to be seen only because of the color of his skin.
He’s not the only star struggling with such problems: Disney’s new Arielle Halle Bailey has been besieged by racist trolls and some cast members from Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series even had to hire a set therapist to help them to deal better with the hate messages and death threats.
Fortunately, Idris Elba doesn’t have to worry about alternative role offers: you can currently experience him with a brief appearance in Netflix’s action sequel Tyler Rake: Extraction 2. Also, his plane hijacking series Hijack was just starting.
