Before the 70th anniversary of the author Ian Fleming’s books about agent James Bond, the publisher announces that the books are partially being rewritten. After being evaluated by “offensive content experts,” controversial language should be removed or changed, writes The evening paper which refers to New York Post.
All new editions of the books, which will be published this spring, will be provided with a warning text stating that the books were written during a time when attitudes that today can be perceived as offensive were commonplace.
Among other things, the ethnicity of a bartender in “Askbollen” and a butler in the book “Quantum of solace” will not be mentioned, derogatory words about black people will be removed and sex scenes will be toned down.
Recently, author Roald Dahl’s children’s books came under a similar scrutiny, but after several rounds, the publisher announced last week that they will not change the wording in those books after all.
