Jakob Silfverberg leaves North America after 800 NHL games – everything points to a return to Swedish hockey

He has played over 800 games in the NHL in the last twelve years.
Now it is clear that Jakob Silfverberg is leaving North America.
And everything suggests that he will be the pure dream signing and return to Sweden again.

2012 left Jakob Silfverberg the safety of Brynäs and Swedish hockey with a newly won SM gold to take the big step to the world’s best hockey league, the NHL. Now we can sum up his time with 13 NHL seasons, over 800 games and 373 points in North America.

Now leaving the NHL

Next week, the 33-year-old will play his very last game for the Anaheim Ducks. With his eleven seasons and 769 games for the NHL team, he is fifth on the list of most games ever for the Ducks.

It will be an emotional farewell to Anaheim.
– It has been an honor and a privilege to play in the NHL. I wouldn’t be here without my teammates, coaches and management staff who have helped me along the way. Most importantly, I want to thank my family who have allowed me to live my dream, the Swede told the Ducks’ official website.
– Thanks to all the supporters around the league, not least to those in Anaheim and Ottawa. Spending 11 years in Orange County and playing for the Ducks is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thanks to you all.

A dream signing

Now everything points to Silfverberg returning home to Swedish hockey again and he has previously been open that it is Brynäs that matters. The last time he was at the club was SM gold in 2012 as team captain and he was also named the most valuable player in the SM play-offs.

If Brynäs makes the step up to the SHL again, Jakob Silfverberg will be a dream signing for the club and exactly the leader needed to establish itself in the Swedish top flight again. The 33-year-old was also team captain for Tre Kronor in the hockey World Cup last year.

What can cause this is that Silfverberg has suffered from blood clots in his legs in recent years. But if he chooses to continue playing hockey, a transfer home to Gävle is highly likely.
