The Social Democrats want to increase the penalties for the purchase of narcotics where minors are involved, in order to prevent gangs from exploiting children for drug sales.
– If we don’t stop the new recruitment of young people into the gangs, we won’t stop the violence either, says party leader Magdalena Andersson, at a press conference before her summer speech in Olofström.
If you buy drugs from a child, you should end up in prison, Andersson thinks.
– We must never lose focus on punishing the adults who exploit children for their own purposes.
According to the proposal, the harsher penalty scale will apply to purchases by people under 18 years of age.
– For those who are stuck in a deep addiction, this will have no effect, but for those who are party junkies and who have an established position in society, I think this makes a difference, says Andersson.
The Social Democrats have made several moves in the past week. Magdalena Andersson demanded at a press conference on Friday that the government should call a party leadership conference to discuss the issue of the ban on burning religious scriptures. This is after the Danish government presented a bill that will ban Koran burnings.
On Thursday, the Social Democrats announced that they are prepared to send the Jas Gripen combat aircraft to Ukraine. The party is open to the possibility that it can be done through export, meaning that the country can buy the plan instead of it being donated, which Sweden has done with defense equipment to Ukraine so far.
