Here is the latest giant shock in the SHL.
Rögle breaks with its star Jacob Peterson – who moves to league rival Frölunda with immediate effect. A club with which he won SM gold before.
– Cool, this is where it all started and it feels like coming home, he says to the club’s website.
Things are going fast for Rögle. The Skåne club has faltered in the league this season and is only in eleventh place after 32 rounds played. It is of course a miscalculation for the team that made it all the way to the final last year – where it was admittedly a loss against Skellefteå with 1-4 in matches.
Peterson leaves for Frölunda
Now the club announces that they are breaking the contract with the big star Jacob Peterson25, whom they signed as recently as last summer. He stepped in as the new first center in the club after Rodrigo Abols left late for the Philadelphia Flyers, but Peterson hasn’t made it fly in Rögle.

What makes it even more shocking is that he is moving to SHL rival Frölunda with immediate effect. He signs until the 2026/2027 season. He has played for the Gothenburg team before and was involved in winning gold in 2019 Roger Rönnberg.
– Cool, this is where it all started and it feels like coming home. It has gone fast, but that’s how it is in hockey, and I feel that this has landed well, says Peterson himself to Frölunda’s website.
Has won SM gold before
Frölunda are of course happy to get back a returnee with experience of winning SM gold.
– This feels good, we were already interested in Jacob Peterson before this season. He is a good person and hockey player who knows our environment. We want to send a big thank you to Rögle because we were able to find this solution together, says the sports manager Fredrik Sjöström.

In total, there were only 32 games in Rögle for Jacob Peterson, who last came from the San Jose Sharks farm club San Jose Barracuda in the AHL. He scored six goals and two assists for the league eleven.
– We want to thank Jacob for his time with us. Unfortunately, neither we nor he himself got what we wanted out of the collaboration and therefore we feel that this change will benefit both parties. We wish Jacob the best of luck in the future, says Rögle’s sporting director Hampus Sjöström to the club’s website.
Despite his young age, Jacob Peterson has cut some clubs. In addition to Frölunda, Rögle and San Jose, he has played for Björklöven, Färjestad, Dallas Stars and Texas Stars.
