Jacob Hård’s beautiful words about Ebba Andersson reveal why she won the Jerring Prize before Armand Duplantis

Ebba Andersson was the big winner at the Sports Gala.
Seasoned sports commentator Jacob Hård understands why.
– It was like seeing Therese Johaug, says the TV profile to SVT.

The advance tips for the Sports Gala were with the athletics giants Armand Duplantis and Daniel Ståhl. The discus giant had already won the Achievement Gold before and also received the award for “Performance of the Year” at the Sports Gala for his fantastic WC gold.

Ebba’s revenge

Duplantis, in turn, was named “Male Athlete of the Year” and received the cheers of the people. But when the most prestigious award in the Jerring Prize was to be handed out, both were snubbed Ebba Andersson got a very big revenge.

The Swedish skiing star was not even nominated for any of the other categories but was then showered with phone calls from the Swedish people who want to give her the noblest award for 2023. And it was fully deserved after her incredible double gold World Ski Championships and a total of four World Cup medals .

Hard tribute

The same day as the Idrottsgala appointed the long-standing SVT commentator Jacob Hard their five best moments from the past year. It was Daniel Ståhl and Armand Duplantis again, the beach volleyball duo David Ohman and Jonathan Hellvigthe swimming queen Sarah Sjostrom and then Ebba Andersson.
– It wasn’t until last winter that Ebba really became a winner, but she became one. When you saw her in the mass starts in the WC, it was a bit like seeing Therese Johaug, actually, says Hård in his beautiful tribute on SVT.
– How she just ran away when she stepped on the gas at the bottom. Not even a fall in the skiathlon could make the competition really exciting. And on the three mile. Yes, there was never any talk.

After the Sports Gala on Monday evening, Jacob Hård is very pleased that his five names won the prizes in the most important categories such as Male of the Year (Duplantis) and Female Athlete of the Year (Sjöström), Performance of the Year (Ståhl), Team of the Year (Åhman/Hellvig) and the Jerring Prize (Anderson).
“When I in SVT chose my five best sporting events from the year, it was Ståhl, Duplantis, E Andersson, Hellvig/Åhman and Sjöström – i.e. all the athletes who received an award at the Sports Gala. It turned out well in the end, the Sports Academy and the Swedish people”, writes Hård on X, see below.
