While the 6th and final season of the spin-off series Cobra Kai is running on Netflix, Sony is continuing with the Karate Kid film series in cinemas. After four parts with Pat Morita as martial arts sensei Mr. Miyagi and the more recent new edition with Jackie Chan as Mr. Han, Daniel-san (Ralph Macchio) and the Chinese film legend unite for Karate Kid: Legends now the powers.
New Karate Kid defeated 10,000 opponents and learns from Jackie Chan
The search for the new Karate Kid began last year, with 10,000 actors with a martial arts background applying for the role in a very short space of time. In the end, 25-year-old Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), who, like Macchio, looks much younger than he actually is, was able to prevail. On the poster he already cuts a fine figure next to the two Karate Kid legends:
The Karate Kid meeting of the generations is scheduled for Open in German cinemas on May 29, 2025. While the original films took place on the West Coast of the USA and the reboot with Jaden Smith as a karate trainee in China, Legends takes us to the East Coast of the USA for the first time.
Wang, who impressed in his audition not only with his extensive language and martial arts knowledge but also with his deep connection to the role, will play the teenager Li Fong, who gains strength and direction through one (or maybe even two) senseis.
Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay with This) directed the film and Rob Lieber wrote the screenplay. Other acting roles include Joshua Jackson, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Ming-Na Wen.
This is what the Karate Kid franchise looks like so far
The first four films are available on MagentaTV at a flat rate and are available elsewhere as rental and purchase titles. The reboot with Jackie Chan can also be found on Sky, while the Cobra Kai series is only available on Netflix.
