The Inspectorate for Care and Care (Ivo) is raising the alarm that gang criminals rule with threats and violence at the Sis home Tysslinge in Södertälje, reports Ekot in Sveriges Radio.
The staff has lost control, according to Ivo’s report, which is based on two inspections during the autumn.
– Employees testify that it is only a matter of time before any residents or staff are killed inside the institution, says Pia Karlsson, head of unit at Ivo, to the radio.
– The young people are in charge and the staff are worried about reprisals outside the accommodation if they intervene.
The Sis home is one of two that has the highest security class. Almost all the young people who live there have connections to criminal gangs, Ekot reports.
Ivo sees shortcomings in the staffing and in the premises, and points out that residents are locked in their rooms and left alone in the wards without supervision. Drugs are also circulating and there have been riots on several occasions.
The authority issues an injunction. If the deficiencies are not corrected, the next step may be to close the home.
