    The institutional site ivg.gouv.fr is getting a makeover on the occasion of the anniversary of the law of March 2, 2022 aimed at strengthening the right to abortion in France. The goal? Ensure access to reliable information on medical termination of pregnancy.

    What is abortion?, The right to abortion, or even the directory of sexual health centers (formerly family planning and education centers – CPEF); all information relating to the medical termination of pregnancy is accessible free of charge via the official website ivg.gouv.fr. The latter has been updated to ensure reliable access to information concerning abortion.

    Allow objective and reliable information on abortion

    According to François Braun’s press release: “It is necessary to be vigilant when searching online for information relating to abortion. Some websites may indicate that they offer information on abortion but are in fact published by activists against right to abortion. The same goes for the so-called support forums where certain testimonies are fabricated from scratch by opponents of the right to abortion. The Government therefore wished to provide reliable information on the medical termination of pregnancy. On the other hand, “the ivg.gouv.fr site has been completely redesigned in order to highlight advances in terms of the right to abortion”.

    Right to abortion: many advances in France

    Indeed, the launch of this brand new site is correlated with the anniversary of the extension of the legal deadline for abortion from 12 to 14 weeks. Other measures in terms of the right to abortion have marked the last twelve months:

    • medical abortion open to teleconsultation;
    • the abolition of the minimum legal period of reflection, for minors as for adults, between the information consultation and the psycho-social interview;
    • midwives authorized to perform instrumental abortions in health establishments (within the framework defined by a decree to be published);
    • the extension of the period of medical abortion from 5 to 7 weeks of pregnancy outside a health establishment (decree of February 19, 2022).

    As a reminder, the national information toll-free number (0 800 08 11 11, anonymous and free call) piloted by the French Family Planning Movement (MFPF) is also accessible from the ivg.gouv.fr website. In addition to this issue, a chat will be available on the ivg-contraception-sexualites.org site of the French Family Planning Movement from March 30th.
