The long season is just a few months away.
And now Sweden has released new covid rules for riders to comply with.
– It is slow. Thought it was over, he tells Östersunds-Posten.
William Poromaa is Sweden’s greatest hope for the future on the men’s side in cross-country skiing. He is only 21 years old, but has already earned the nickname “The Savior from Fränsta” as a result of the enormous talent he possesses.
Will take further steps
Last season was a bit up and down for the Swede. He missed the start of the season due to illness, and it took a couple of weeks for William Poromaa to return to full form.
Despite that, it was the 21-year-old’s best season so far in his career. He was by far Sweden’s best skater during the Olympics and towards the end of the competition year he arranged a podium place in the World Cup.
Next season, Poromaa will take a further step and the hope is that he will really establish himself at the top of the world. The national team is currently in Torsby and getting ready for the upcoming season.
Once there, the new national team doctor, Rickard Noberius, began by showing the infection curves for the coronavirus. And it was not great information for the cross-country skiers.
“It was tough”
Now, once again, they have to wear masks, keep their distance and be careful with the hand sanitizer outside the national team bubble. Something that William Poromaa did not like.
– It was tough, you thought this would be over, he says.
– It was a bit of a sigh when our doctor showed us curves and we saw this in black and white. It’s going up significantly again, adds Emma Ribom.
Rickard Noberius says that there will be an increase in the infection in society going forward.
– There is an increase in society and there will be an increase in the next few weeks. If you do a sport like skiing, it is important every day that you can be healthy and injury-free, he says.
